November 3, 2005

SYSTEM OF A DOWN won in the "Best Alternative" category tonight (Nov. 3) at the 12th MTV Europe Music Awards, held at the Atlantic Pavilion in Lisbon. The band also closed the show with a performance of "Bring Your Own Bomb".

MTV handed out awards in a total of 29 categories, including 18 for the various local MTV channels in Europe.

Winners in all categories were voted for by MTV's audience, except for the best video and Free Your Mind awards, which were decided by MTV Europe's management, according to Billboard.com. This year's show generated a record 13 million public votes, which were cast via the Internet and cell phones.
